Our product
We are responsible for the development and maintenance of the Packet Core User Plane as well as the Packet Core Gateway. The user plane handles packet routing and forwarding in the mobile data network between internet and the radio network. All 3G, 4G and 5G mobile traffic passes through the user plane. It runs on several platforms, including carrier-grade routers, virtual machines and containers.
To understand our product, knowledge of IP Protocols and routing in an embedded environment is essential. Most of our product code is written C for performance, while we use Python for scripting.
Our products put high technical requirements on the developers including high-performance application development, low latency requirements, multi-threaded programming, embedded development, DPDK knowledge and framework design in the IP Connectivity competence area.
What you will do
As Software Architect your responsibilities will include:
* Deciding the overall architecture of the user plane as well as the Packet Core Gateway.
* Collaborate with the architect team, consisting of 8 architects on 4 sites worldwide.
* Study new opportunities securing the competitiveness of the product.
* Interact directly with customers translating their needs into product requirements.
* Contribute to customer engagements innovation and proof of concepts as part of our technology leadership.
* Continuously spread the knowledge of the current and future architecture in the organization.
We are looking for people with:
User Plane Expertise
* Minimum 6 years experience in packet core development (4G EPC / 5G Core).
* Proven track record in designing or developing 5G UPF or similar high-performance data plane functions.
* Strong knowledge of user plane packet pipelines, multi-core scaling, and CPU affinity optimization.
* Hands-on experience with DPDK for data plane acceleration.
* Demonstrated success in optimizing data plane performance to >100 Gbps throughput under real traffic conditions.
* Experience designing high availability (HA) and geo-redundant UPF deployments.
General Technical Skills
* Expert-level understanding of IP networking, PFCP, UDP/TCP, and routing concepts.
* Skilled in system profiling (perf) and low-latency performance tuning.
* Strong proficiency in C/C++.
* Deep understanding of Linux kernel internals, NUMA, memory management, and I/O optimization.
* Solid background in cloud-native architectures, microservices, and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker).
Leadership & Collaboration
* Proven ability to lead and coach cross-functional teams.
* Strong communication skills and technical leadership across multi-sited, multicultural environments.
* Proven ability to bridge between software architects and development teams to ensure consistent architecture and design alignment.
