Saab is looking for a technically‑driven engineer who thrives on hands‑on software development and protocol implementation in Linux‑based environments and simulator test‑beds. You will be a key contributor to our next‑generation communication solutions, bringing expertise in security, cloud technologies, computer‑network research and advanced communication architectures. A core focus of the position is to enable the integration of MANET‑based topology‑control protocols on custom hardware.
Your role
In this role, you will develop and maintain Linux-based software and protocol stacks, including security-focused components, cloud-native services, and VPN solutions certified for Top Secret environments. You will design, implement, and validate MANET topology control algorithms on specialized hardware platforms for directional data links, and create robust routing solutions covering failover, backup routes, multicast, and IPv6 support.
You will also explore and prototype emerging technologies such as virtualization, blockchain-based trust models, and secure cloud infrastructure to enable resilient communication systems. Collaboration is a key part of the role, working cross-functionally with internal teams as well as external partners and research organizations.
In addition, you will contribute to product development and participate in national and international R&D projects, ensuring that solutions meet the highest security standards. You will play an active role in mentoring colleagues and sharing knowledge, helping to foster a culture of continuous learning, and you will document and disseminate technical insights to ensure best practices are shared across the organization.

Your profile
You bring strong technical expertise and proven experience in software development and protocol implementation on Linux, ideally within defence or aerospace environments. You have solid knowledge of cybersecurity and cloud platforms such as Kubernetes, Docker, and Azure/AWS, and understand how they apply to communication systems.
You have hands-on experience designing routing solutions for high-speed airborne networks and UAV swarms, including failover, multicast, and IPv6. In addition, you are familiar with Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET), topology control protocols, and directional radio links.
You are comfortable working at the intersection of software and hardware, collaborating closely with hardware engineers to tailor solutions for specialized platforms. You also have an interest in areas such as virtualization, blockchain concepts, and secure cloud infrastructure research.
As a person, you are a strong communicator who thrives in multidisciplinary and multi-organization environments. You enjoy mentoring and supporting junior colleagues and actively share your knowledge and expertise.
You hold a PhD or equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field. You are also able to obtain and maintain the required security clearance (Top Secret Sweden / UE Secret).
